Colony in Space (Colonia en el espacio) es la cuarta historia de la octava temporada clásica de Doctor Who. Esta historia fue importante en términos de narrativa por ser la primera vez desde The War Games en la que el Doctor viajó con un acompañante en la TARDIS a otro planeta. En tal sentido, fue la primera historia estrenada a color en la que se viajó fuera de la Tierra.
Esta historia introdujo también un nuevo modelo del destornillador sónico, único al Tercer Doctor. Si bien este había sido anunciado en Doctor Who and the Silurians, fue en este serial que hizo su primera aparición. A partir de esta historia, este instrumento científico aparecería de manera frecuente.
Asimismo, este serial fue el primero en ser dirigido por Michael Briant, quien anteriormente había trabajado como asistente de producción, entre otros cargos. Briant dirigiría más tarde algunos de los seriales más icónicos de la serie, como The Robots of Death o The Sea Devils.
Sinopsis[]
Los Señores del tiempo descubren que el Amo a robado el archivo secreto sobre el Arma del Juicio Final. Ellos le otorgan a el Doctor un indulto temporal de su exilio en la Tierra para lidiar con esta crisis. El y Jo llegan al planeta Uxarieus y se enredan en una lucha entre una colonia agraria y una poderosa corporación minera.
Una futura encarnación del Doctor conocida como el Conservador también se introdujo durante la etapa del Undécimo Doctor y apareció en The Day of the Doctor (2013).
