Empress of Mars (Emperatriz de Marte) es el noveno episodio de la décima temporada moderna de Doctor Who. Es destacable por haber introducido en 2017 la primera Guerrera de Hielo mujer vista en pantalla, la Reina de HieloIraxxa, 50 años después de la introducción de la especie en el serial de 1967 The Ice Warriors.
Empress supuso el regreso de dos actores de la serie clásica de Doctor Who:
Ysanne Churchman, quien retomó el rol de Alpha Centauri por primera vez desde el serial de 1974 The Monster of Peladon, y Anthony Calf, que había aparecido por última vez en un episodio de Doctor Who en el serial de 1982 The Visitation.
Narrativamente, fue importante por contener la primera ocasión en la que Missy sale de su cámara en la temporada (con la excepción de sus flashbacks). Vigilar la cámara para evitar que escapara fue una parte importante del argumento de la temporada; en este episodio, sin embargo, Nardole permite a Missy salir y pilotar la TARDIS.
Cuando la NASA descubre el mensaje GOD SAVE THE QUEEN (Dios salve a la reina) en la superficie de Marte, el Duodécimo Doctor, Nardole y Bill viajan hacia el planeta rojo para investigar. Allí, acaban envueltos en un conflicto entre los Guerreros de Hielo y soldados victorianos. ¿A qué bando debe ayudar el Doctor?
Una futura encarnación del Doctor conocida como el Conservador también se introdujo durante la etapa del Undécimo Doctor y apareció en The Day of the Doctor (2013).
