The Invasion es el tercer serial de la sexta temporada clásica de Doctor Who. Presentó un nuevo diseño de Cyberman, el cual se mantendría vigente hasta Earthshock en 1982.
En esta historia Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart realizó su segunda aparición, ahora ostentando el cargo de Brigadier. También introdujo a la organización UNIT y al futuro sargento John Benton. Detrás de cámaras, este fue el inicio del periodo en el cual Terrance Dicks actuó como editor de guiones. Adicionalmente, fue la última aparición como enemigo central de los Cybermen hasta 1975 en Revenge of the Cybermen.
Los episodios uno y cuatro actualmente no se encuentran en los archivos de BBC1, por lo cual tuvieron que ser animados para el estreno en formato DVD del serial en 2006.
