The Lie of the Land (La Mentira de la Tierra) es el octavo episodio de la décima temporada moderna de Doctor Who. Se trata de la conclusión de un arco argumental de tres episodios acerca de la amenaza de los Monjes. En este episodio, el Doctor accede a la cámara de St Luke para pedir consejo a Missy, revelando su objetivo de hacerla cambiar su personalidad destructiva y pasar a ser "buena".
Algo que llamó la atención de este episodio incluso antes de su emisión fue una escena que pudo verse en el trailer de la temporada, emitido al final de The Pilot: el Doctor empieza a regenerarse. Esto se asemeja bastante a la era de David Tennant con la regeneración sorpresa al final de TV: The Stolen Earth, haciendo surgir rumores de que Peter Capaldi podría salir de Doctor Who mucho antes de lo esperado.[1] No obstante, en The Lie of the Land se revela que no es una regeneración real, sino que tiene la habilidad de fingir una regeneración sin ningún cambio de apariencia.

Una futura encarnación del Doctor conocida como el Conservador también se introdujo durante la etapa del Undécimo Doctor y apareció en The Day of the Doctor (2013).
