Continuando con el arco argumental de la cámara, el Doctor se lleva a Missy en su primera aventura y la confía con sus dos acompañantes para observar su comportamiento. El episodio muestra lo que parece ser el inicio de la regeneración del Duodécimo Doctor.
En este episodio, John Simm regresa como el Amo siete años después de su última aparición en The End of Time. Su aparición junto con Michelle Gomez interpretando a Missy supone la primera vez que más de una encarnación del Amo aparecen juntas en pantalla, haciendo de este el primer episodio multi-Amo de la historia de la serie.
Además de esto, el episodio supone el regreso de los Cybermen con su diseño original por primera vez en cincuenta años desde su introducción en 1966 y su primera aparición formal desde Death in Heaven. El episodio sugiere una cuarta versión alternativa de la génesis de los Cybermen Mondasianos - orígenes distintos aparecieron en los cómics The World Shapers y The Cybermen, y en el audio Spare Parts.
El nombre del episodio es de la primera línea del poema To His Coy Mistress (A su amada esquiva) de Andrew Marvell.
El Doctor decide comprobar cuán buena se ha vuelto Missy enviándola en una aventura de prueba con Bill y Nardole. No obstante, las cosas toman un giro inesperado y el Doctor tiene que involucrarse. Bill se queda atrapada en una zona temporal distinta y el Doctor tiene que encontrarla antes de que sea demasiado tarde. ¿Quiénes son todas esas personas siendo curadas?
Una futura encarnación del Doctor conocida como el Conservador también se introdujo durante la etapa del Undécimo Doctor y apareció en The Day of the Doctor (2013).
